In A Million Opens Doors For Police
Athletic League
October
22, 2008 - (Merrillville, IN) The Gary
PAL has offered a refuge for youth of
the City of Gary for nearly thirty years.
Opening its doors daily Coach John Taylor
has created an outreach that has continued
to grasp the interest of the children
in the City.
(Pictured Above
directly after the floods the Gary P.A.L.
Gym was surrounded by a lake of water
much like it's neighbor Indiana University
Northwest.)
Nearly a month has
passed and for many the historical flooding
of September can still be felt. Though
the waters have receded and the streets
have dried some still remain displaced.
The hard rains had affected the whole
region and closed down roads and schools.
Indiana University Northwest Gary Campus
was one of the campuses most greatly affected
by the flooding having numerous campus
structures damaged.
(Coach
John Taylor instructs kids from the Gary
P.A.L. Amateur Program now training at
the One In A Million Gym)
Just the length of a football field north
of the campus sat one of the City of Gary's
strongest youth organizations. In a little
old building The Gary P.A.L. (Police Athletic
League), which has been a safe haven for
the youth of Gary since 1979 sat deep
under water.
Coach John Taylor
who began this program and still runs
it today said this was the worst it had
ever been since they had started. "The
longest we have ever had closed before
was a couple of days, but with this much
damage I am not sure when or if we are
going to be able to reopen. The flooding
ruined everything; the water was above
the ring, which is about 5 feet high."
The Gary P.A.L.
is a simple program, it is a amateur youth
boxing program at no cost to the participants
and one that Coach Taylor has personally
picked up the kids and brought them to
the gym for years. He has continuously
sought to better the youth of the City
and offer them an outlet and mentor them
to succeed not only in the ring, but also
in life.
"Octavius said
bring the kids in immediately after he
heard about the flooding and the damage
to our gym. And we have been here at the
One In A Million Gym ever since."
Taylor said. "This has been a true
blessing because if we hadn't had a place
to train I would have lost all of our
kids. Once they lose interest, they are
gone and back to the streets, fortunately
the kids love it here at One In A Million,
saying how it is the nicest boxing gym
they have ever seen. Also, Octavius has
assured me that he will have a meeting
with Mayor Clay (referring to the Mayor
of Gary) discussing if the City will be
able to assist me & the children in
returning back to our home gym. It makes
me happy to know we can continue such
a rich tradition of keeping the kids off
the streets, and helping create more World
Champions." said Taylor
(Coach

(Coach Taylor displays proper form
for one of his boxers)
With the damage too extensive to fix and
with the children of the Gary P.A.L. left
homeless One In A Million Boxing CEO Octavius
James welcomed in Coach Taylor and his
kids with open arms immediately after
hearing of the flooding at the Gary P.A.L.
"Being from the City of Gary and
seeing what a significant role John Taylor
has been in helping the youth of the City,
there was no hesitation on our part to
give Coach Taylor and the Gary P.A.L.
amateurs a place to train for as long
as they need. Many amateurs, now fighting
Professionally for One In A Million Boxing
have come from the Gary P.A.L. including
past & present fighters, from Angel
Manfredy, Derrick "Superman"
Findley, NABC Female Lightweight Champion
"Merciless" Mary McGee along
with many others." James said.

Settles The Score @ "Radisson
Rumble"
The
highly anticipated rematch between
Michael “The Midnight
Stalker” Walker (19-1-1,
12 KO’s) and Antwun Echols
(31-9, 27 KO’s) met the
expectations of fans right from
the starting bell. After their
initial meeting in February
of this year as the Main Event
on ESPN 2 Friday Night Fights,
which ended in a draw Walker
and Echols had some unfinished
business to resolve. These two
warriors showed this time it
was personal as the heated exchanges
began immediately. Walker initiated
the action and pushed the fight
tempo with his relentless charging
offense and body attack. The
crafty veteran Echols worked
with his stiff jab trying to
keep the come forward Walker
away.
The
more experienced Echols looked to
counterpunch from all angles to help
weather the offensive storm of Walker.
The constant pressure of Walker led
to numerous heavy exchanges throughout
the bout. Both fighters landed crushing
punches that shook there opponent
at times. The constant pressure of
Walker seemed a bit much for Echols
as he began to show fatigue at the
end of each of the latter rounds and
Walker continued to finish strong
until the last bell. Such tremendous
action brought the fans to their feet
as both fighters received a standing
ovation for the performance they had
delivered.
After
eight hard fought rounds of back and
forth action the battle went to the
judge’s scorecards. Even after
the first judge saw the bout 76-76
a draw both fighters stood confidently.
Michael Walker however would be the
victor as the other scores of 78-74
and 77-75 were announced for Walker
who won by majority decision.

Middleweight
Orphius Waite (3-0-0, 2 KOs)

the pace with Juan Aguilar
(6-2-0, 3 KOs) who started
the fight with great aggression.
Waite kept his composure under
the pressure and let the hard
pressing Aguilar wear himself
out as Waite would pick and
choose his punches. After
six hard fought rounds the
judges would see the final
scorecards 59-55, and 60-54,
all for Waite.
The
night started with some huge
knockout victories as boxers
Michael Parker of Highland,

Rematch
From ESPN 2 Walker-Echols This Friday
Night For "Radisson Rumble":
September 29, 2008
(Merrillville, IN) Entering his final
week of training Michael "The Midnight
Stalker" Walker (18-1, 12 KO's) is
primed and ready to go for this Friday's
"Radisson Rumble". The hard
working Walker is finishing the 8-week
training camp for his October 3rd rematch
against former top world rated contender
Antwun Echols (31-8, 27 KO's).
In February Walker
and Echols met for the first time during
the Main Event of the ESPN 2 Friday Night
Fights. After ten action packed, back
and forth hard fought rounds the judges
saw the fight a draw. Walker on the other
hand thought that though taking the fight
on one days notice he had done enough
to win the fight. In this upcoming October
3rd match up Walker plans to leave no
doubt who should have won the first fight.
"This time
its personal!" Said Walker. "Echols
won't get a chance for the judges to score
this fight. I have trained hard and am
fully focused for Antwun. I have just
finished a great training camp at the
One In A Million Gym in Merrillville and
I am ready to show the fans Michael Walker
is a force to be reckoned with in the
Middleweight division. Friday can't get
here soon enough for me and once we are
in the ring it is going to be a night
where Antwun Echols will never be able
to forget why they call me 'The Midnight
Stalker'."
One In A Million Boxing President/CEO
Octavius James shared in Walker's enthusiasm.
"This is a huge fight for Michael.
He is coming off his first professional
loss after facing #2 World ranked David
Lopez in June on nationally televised
Solo Boxeo. This is the comeback fight
that can solidify Michael's position in
the Middleweight division and show the
boxing world that he is a world-class
contender. Walker and Echols first encounter
was an absolute barnburner there was non-stop
action from the first punch until the
final bell; it was one of the most exciting
match ups I have watched. The fans are
in for an absolute treat come Friday Night.
Michael understands this is a must win
fight for him and I know he is up to the
challenge."
In the Co-Main Event
fast rising middleweight Derrick "Superman"
Findley (12-2, 7 KO's) is coming off two
huge victories as he returns home to fight
for his local fans. Plus in a special
attraction bout Juan "Mexican Connection"
Aguilar (6-1, 3 KO's) takes on Orphuis
Waite (2-0, 2 KO's). Rounding out this
exciting card will be Heavyweight Michael
"Quiet Assassin" Parker (6-0,
5 KO's), Welterweight sensation Ed Ochoa
(5-0, 5 KO's), and the newest member of
Team One In A Million middleweight Josh

Chicago
Boxing Promoter Added To Fight on “Radisson
Rumble”
September
16, 2008 (Merrillville, IN) - Octavius James/One
In A Million, Inc. announced today a special
addition to the already talent filled October
3rd “Radisson Rumble” fight
card at Radisson Hotel @ Star Plaza. Local
Chicago boxing promoter and fan favorite
Sam Merza (14-1, 11 KO’s) will look
to make his triumphant return inside the
ropes for the first time in three years.
Fighter
turned Boxing Promoter Sam Merza has experienced
both sides of what the boxing world has
to offer. He has experienced all the highs
and lows of being both inside and outside
the ropes during his career. Merza a highly
regarded Chicago Middleweight was known
for his entertaining power punching style.
He had such a fan following that the undefeated
Merza decided to not only fight, but also
try his luck promoting boxing events.
After a successful
run at promotions the draw of being in
the ring had continued to burn and after
three years Merza again made a pivotal
decision, stepping away from being a promoter
and returning to what drew him to the
sport, fighting itself. When thinking
about how he would return to the ring
and not wanting to make the same mistake
of fighting and promoting Merza said there
was only one choice for him for a promoter.
“Octavius James and One In A Million,
Inc. is one of the best promoters out
there, he is dedicated to helping develop
young fighters and he is the one who can
help take you to that next level as a
fighter,” said Merza. On his feelings
on returning to the ring on the October
3rd “Radisson Rumble”, “I
can’t wait to put the gloves back
on, I appreciate the opportunity to return
to the ring and promise to put on a great
show for the fans, a big thanks to Octavius
for helping me to start fighting again.”
“When
Sam Colona who trains Merza and also serves
as the cutman for Michael Walker had asked
me about Sammy (Merza) fighting and returning
to the ring on the October 3rd “Radisson
Rumble” I was glad to be able to
help out.” said Octavius James President
& CEO of One In A Million Inc. “Merza
has the ring appeal and puts on an exciting
fight and I am pleased to reintroduce
him to the ring and have our local fans
see more talent from this region. I look
forward to seeing everyone out on October
3rd. That is going to be one exciting
night of boxing for the fans.” James
said.

Walker (18-1, 12 KO's) looks to return
